Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I was considering getting the XZ2 compact couple of months ago when I found out about Rinigus port. Kudos to him! The problem is that I need 1 (one) android app which I cant use in that case for lack of android support.
So for now for the summer X compact will do with the same app somewhat crippled but usable. For the rest of the year I have XA2 and X in the drawer for backup. It will be really hard to convince myself to buy next gen phone that I cant use with one hand. |

In fact, if I want to reflash my X, I can only find android 8 versions on official channels. For the XA2 there are only android 9 versions left to reflash. |

I hope that Jolla will put Sailfish on it. The Android on Xperia X works worse by the day it feels like.

Well, it’s an obsolete budget device from 2015.. At least it works decent with android Oreo compared to sfosX. |

We are in mid 2020 so late 2015 or early 2016 is kinda the same. As for the rest, lighter and thinner doesn’t impact performance. XA2 has much faster SOC and newer software, but again, it’s still a 2 and a half year old budget phone. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
My XperiaX is starting to show battery end-of-life symptoms, nowdys it hardly holds up to a whole day and drops to 10% around the late evening. (telegrame is what's eating the batery most)
Could people who have done DIY battery repairs give some pointers to where to order the battery and the extra bits needed for the repair? (It seems to need some special sticky tape and so on...) It is easiest the best SFOS phone I have had and wojld be shame to scrap ot just for the flat battery... |
Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Unfortunately the problem is mostly with SFOS itself on X and X compact. I saw tremendous gains in battery life and performance when I restored the device to android Oreo.
So as the battery is getting older, it’s going to be really hard to use it as a daily driver with SFOS. |

I have had the device for something like four or five years and the battery lasted very well until just this last year it started running down faster. |

Trying to pry the back off with a fingernail now it's still fitting nice and tight so not moving, possibly helped by living in an official flip case. Not sure it makes any difference but mine's a Brazilian dual sim so maybe it has better glue to deal with the heat than Rob's? |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
FWIW I made several replacements of batteries and screens for smartphones (HTC, Xiaomi...), not yet for Sony, though.
My comments: I usually buy the components in Aliexpress but this is just a matter of habits. Note that receiving items from Aliexpress can take quite a long time. Do not buy the cheapest component (or the most expensive one...) and avoid the batteries which indicates higher capacity than the standard one. This is just marketing and maybe a sign of not so serious seller. I bought several tools like these for opening the casing: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33052488276.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000067505530.html But finally I do not use them, I use plastic collected from packaging instead. Being soft, this has the advantage of not damaging the casing. You can use playing cards as well. Not having the specific adhesive for reinstalling the back plate is not a problem, I use double sided sticky adhesive, about 2mm wide. For example this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32851454528.html In some places (below the battery, etc), you can put several layers, one next to the other. Do not overheat the back plate with the hair dryer, you should always be able to touch the parts with bare hands. Allow plenty of time for doing this, don't do this in a hurry. The first step (removing the back plate) can take 10 minutes or more... Watch several tutorials and don't start until you're comfortable with the sequence of operations. Good luck :) |

Hi
I'm looking to buy a Sony X battery in the UK. Does anyone have any recommended places to buy? Any recommend ebay stores? Rich |

This is the one I've been using for over a year, don't think it's genuine but it's not given me any problems. Assuming they're still the same that is. |

I did not happen to have proper double-sided tape, so to keep the battery back in place, I used one pre-cut to small squares (about 8x8 mm), designed to stick pictures in frames. Similar to this one. I used four squares, one in each corner. It holds fine. I did not bother with the backplate at all. Whatever sticky magic they used still holds even after a second battery replacement. It is possible that my usage pattern (keeping it in a flip case and playing an Android game that can get the phone quite hot) helps ;) |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Hi
Has anyone replaced the micro-usb port on the Sony X? The charging cable is loose and can easily fall out on mine. I'm considering changing battery and micro-usb port at the same time. Or leaving it as is and getting a new phone when it finally packs up. Rich |

Apologies for not bothering to search this tiny little thread for this info before asking:
Is bluetooth working well under Sf X on the Xperia 10? |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Sorry for asking a naive question: how do I restore an Xperia X running Sailfish X back into Android?
All guides I found online assume it is running Android to start with. No one ever expects starting from running anything else. Nevertheless, I tried running Emma. As per this guide, I turned the phone off, waited 30 seconds, plugged the phone in the USB while holding the Volume Down button. The indicator LED lit up green (VERY dimly, barely noticeable) but nothing else happened. Emma does not recognize the phone. To preempt some questions, I also tried Volume Up, as well as starting Emma before or after plugging the phone in. All with the same result. Caveat! It might be relevant. My phone is in the "battery only charges up to 20%" mode. I had it once but don't remember how I got out of it. I cannot get out of it now. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

This is the first time hearing about this “up to 20%” mode. Does it go away if you press and hold power+vol up until it restarts? On the windows side, as long as you have fastboot and drivers it should work. Did you also try a different usb cable and/or usb port? |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Never mind, it turns out I was doing a lousy job looking for a guide the first time. I found this, which describes exactly what I need.
However, my problem still persists. After I turn my phone off, it will not come on by pressing the Power button or by plugging it in the PC. The only thing I can do is plug it in the charger. To get the green light, I need to:
However, at Step 7, the phone has already booted up to the "battery charging" screen. I assume that is the problem. So I guess the real question is, how do I fix my battery problem? :D It looks my phone does not like the "20%" thing. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Quote:
No, it doesn't. Once turned off, the phone cannot be turned back on other than by plugging it in the charger. And it is permanently stuck on the 20% battery status. Quote:
I am using Emma, as per this guide. It asked me to download and install the drivers on the first start, which I did. Quote:

Fastboot is just a communication protocol to get access to every partition on the device. I mentioned the usb port because from what I heard ( no personal experience here ) some people had issues flashing SFOs with usb 3. I don’t remember anything specific though or if it’s relevant. Now my experience with 2 different devices and computers was a bit different each time. First time with XC I had no luck with adb drivers from Google or Sony (I don’t remember anymore). What worked in this case was this https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/o...1-4-3.2588979/ Everything went smoothly after that and a reboot. More recently with the 10 III I had to download the zip file with the drivers from below and manually update the phone drivers from device manager https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb But for the 20% thing, I really have no idea. I only know the “4% battery drop” on my N9 [emoji28] |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Ha! What do I know! The "20% thing" - it was my own thread! I even described how I fixed it (by resoldering the battery connector). But it is back. Oh well, time to get a new phone, I suppose...

Sorry to hear that. If you decide to go with a newer Xperia device for sailfish though, I can tell you that I really enjoyed the jump from X compact to 10 III! I don’t know if it will work for you, especially the size and aspect ratio, but I definitely recommend it if it is to your liking. |

Speaking of which, would anyone like a free Sony Xperia X with Sailfish X installed? Just the phone, no box or charger. But with an included free wallet case. The only issue: battery permanently stuck at 20%. I would like the taker to pay for the postage, though. |
