Pheew, at least a start.... I'm finally using it the way it was meant to be. On a side note, is there a way (or an app) to get a (digital) clock on the top where it is visible all the time? I was so engrossed doing stuff on it that i didn't realize it was 3.35am !!! |
Re: N800 - Wifi problem. Cannot detect router at home
My N800 doesn't see all local wifi networks all the time either.
ANd, I'm suspecting my DLINK DIR-655 isn't playing nice when it is in mixed N-G-B mode. In G B it'll see it. Disconnect. Set to N G B, can't find it. (actually during the router little reset moment, the N800 can't see anything at all) Back to B G, there's my router. Though my laptop won't see it now.... Grrr I've had similar issues with notebooks not seeing anything and having to do IP configs manually where DHCP isn't getting along. Time to write DLINK. So, I'm really thinking there's something wrong with the router firmware. DIR-655 1.0.5 ... If only I could figure out why Google talk is not able to connect "unable to connect to one or more accounts". On two accounts, password logs in on gmail, so it is correct. Updated skype and microb and fm. (if that matters) Used to work fine before, though I've never actively used it. |

Regarding WEP, just use MAC address filtering. Oh, and my $.02 on this whole thing: pre-N sucks. I will not (voluntarily) use until it's an approved specification. Otherwise, look what happens. It's insane. My b/g Linksys router serves me just fine.

Once I've defeated WEP encryption within about 5-10 minutes it only takes me a few more seconds to change my MAC address and I'm past any MAC filter that might be in place... :) |
Re: N800 - Wifi problem. Cannot detect router at home
True. But I guess the point is not to thwart attacks, but to deter them. A home network will never be attacked, except by opportunistic wardrivers. If my neighbors have unsecured WiFi and I have WEP with MAC address filtering, I'm not going to be the one attacked. Of course, I really should be using WPA2 encryption. I suppose I could use that, if I could get Ubuntu and the (future) n800 to play nice with it.
