If so, then it is different from XperiaX and in AquaFish, where torch has to be activated from that "menu" to be available as shown in the first pic. |

@matemana
Did you have a good GPS signal? |

Does vpn menu work for you? When i import new profile and click to connect to vpn it says "Problem with connection", but it works if i start vpn from terminal with this command Code:
openvpn --config client_tun.ovpn |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
Problem with openvp is solved too. I chose ovpn file which contains my settings, but still i do not know why but it was using some other conf file.
I edited and selected my own conf file and it worked. If you choose ovpn file you must not need to select conf file too. They are the same just with different extension. I used to use ovpn file on windows when used windows On linux conf extension. That wifi tethering script which is in first post does not work for me on 2.1.3.7. It complains about tether parameter and says device not found. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
I am writing this message using wifi tethering on 2.1.3.7...so it does work. Did you copy and paste the script? Or did you download it?

Yeah, the script can not be copied from the code box due to limitations of the forum software. Download link works fine for me.
I added the script as an attachment, just remove the txt extension. |

As for car movement, it should follow it easily (using it for navigation). You may have to enable "Auto center on position" in main menu. Frequently, GPS lock can take some significant time, but after getting a decent lock, all should be closely followed. In Poor Maps, the uncertainty in position is shown by a distance at the right bottom - by that you can judge how well your device's GPS thinks it knows your position. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
I have very bad experience. Today something went wrong with touch screen. It ignored touches. I could not unlock for 10 minutes. I couldn't scroll. Touch screen worked in recovery good. So i did reinstall wiped:
dalvik, system, data, cache and installed latest. It worked good. It's highly unreliable system. If you need GPS quickly you can't rely on SFOS, If you need to send some files via BT you can't rely, If you want wifi tethering you can't rely. Android just works. Sadly this is what it is. Hack even slimport does not work. Other then this all the fancy linux stuff is nice to have on a phone. But as i said all these things i mentioned earlier are not relible for daily use. You should have dual boot with android. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
Have you read the known issues section on the front page? The non working touch screen issue is a bug many ports suffer, but there are many solutions. Have you enabled the Mozilla services for GPS? I normally get an GPS fix in 10 seconds. Wifi tethering works without any issues for me, but i do not use it. You are free to help to improve the port and get things you want like slimport working. You can not compare an unofficial Sailfish port to an OS like Android which is maintained by a few hundred people. Maybe an officially supported Sailfish phone or an Android device would be an better option for you?

You clearly have the experience needed, but for some reason you are having issues that others are not having. After reading several pages of all of your problems, I am not surprised that you aren't happy. I am just pleased that I have not encountered any of your issues. |

I am not saying that sfos port is bad. i get that it is just me having these problems. maybe it is related to my phone being bad. i do not know. i love linux and this os just i had very bad experience with it. but i will not go back to android. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
@mautz would it be possible to build a kernel with apparmor support?
|
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
@bomo
I'll take a look into it and report back. Why do you need Apparmor support? |

Just updated to 2.1.4.13 early access, phone booted succesfully, can't test much more since my screen is damaged at the moment and i have no sim inserted. I will release a new image when public release is out.
@Bomo, due to the broken phone i was not able to enable Apparmor at the moment. Sorry. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
@mautz two things I noticed just on the N5 and not jollaC
1) The mail client loads external images although configured otherwise 2) Configuring stuff via about:config on the stock browser does not seem to have any effect. I ttried this with the cookie policies and the tracking protection. Is that also effecting others? How could it be possible that this behavior is different compared to jollaC? |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
1) E-mail client on my phone does not download pictures automatically, have you selected download pictures automatically in Mail settings?
I couldn't test the browser, screen got unresponsive again, sorry. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
@mautz is it already possible to update to 2.1.4.?
Btw. is there a way to check for release upgrades via ssu command line tool? |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
It is possible since 2.1.4.13 was released, like i wrote a few posts ago. I don't think it is possible, but normally every new release gets its own topic here and Jolla posts the Release Notes and Changelog on TJC.

Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
Hi all. I am new here. I just want to ask you do you recommend installing sailfish on Nexus 5 . Is it usable as a daily driver?
|
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
I am using it since almost 2 years now, so I can affirm it is!
However, I am using an old version because it can run Android apps and video recording works. The newer version has more features from Sailfish like VPN and other improvements, but it lacks those two things I need. |

I also use the Nexus 5 for a long time as daily driver. Same as @claustn, I am still on the CM12 base, mainly because af Video recording, but also because I am just lazy, and my CM12 configuration is running so smooth. There are some things to mention. The last running version of SailfishOS on the CM12 base is 2.0.5.6 Haapajoki (@claustn: correct me if I am wrong ;-) ) You will also have to add a systemd service to enable bluetooth low-power-mode (see next post). I am on my way to switch to the CM13 base, because a lot of apps I use have been upgraded and are no longer compatible with SFOS 2.0.5.6. So I have to use the old versions. Also I cannot remember having recorded a video with my cam... :-) I hope you enjoy your Nexus 5 running SailfishOS. |
Re: SailfishOS 2.0 Nexus5 based on CM13 alpha release
I should have posted that for a long time now, but I wanted to install the CM13 port first...
I have completely rewritten the bluetooth low-power-mode script. It is now based on a single permanent dbus listener. The implementation is much cleaner. Also I was able to fix the problems some of you had, when trying to connect some devices. I use that next generation script for a long time now with no problems with my car audio system, bt-headphones and a HiFi bt-adapter. Feel free to report problems... Source: https://github.com/minimec/bt-sleep-monitor #How it works... : A dbus-monitor process is listening for different dbus events in parallel: # - Bluetooth power on/off # - Bluetooth connections # - Display events # When an event is triggered the program will decide whether to enable/disable # or temporarily disable bluetooth suspend (low power mode). # If bluetooth is powered and in low power mode, a display event will disable suspend mode for 60 seconds ($BTACTIVE). # In case there is no bluetooth connection after that time, suspend mode is enabled again. This is a copy/paste instruction to replace the implemented script in the CM13 port. Code:
# login root console |

You can start the script manually after boot. That way, you even have a monitor of the events, as long as you keep the console open. :-) Just do the following command in the console... Code:
devel-su bt-sleep-monitor start |

@minimec
The OTA update problems of CM12.1 base are history in CM13 base version, update does not crash or take a long time anymore. Thanks for your updated script! |
