Nokia says exactly: NokiaMaps are free, routing information is for fee. Is Nokia 770/ 800 intended for work with bluetooth phone ? Exactly. I can even see phone icon to make such connection. So why not to port Navicore from Symbian to Debian to Nokia 770/800 and have free NokiaMaps for use on Nokia 770/800 and have still paid routing service as an option, already offered for a family of Nokia gsm phones ? I don't ask for a free routing at Nokia 770/800. Or in the case, free NokiaMaps don't come from Navicore, prt NokiaMaps from Symbian Nokia to Debian Nokia 770/800 anyway and finally. Not today, but mayby in near future. If still a problem. To have Nokia 780/800 to act as a virtual terminal to any Nokia phone running free NokiaMaps. Not today, but in near future. Darius |

Nokia Maps is not available, but that's Nokia's decision, not mine. The nearest equivalent of Nokia Maps is Maemo Mapper, which has more functionality, and is also free. |

Meant porting Navicore from Symbian to Debian. Or porting free NokiaMaps from Symbian to Debian. Nokia 800/ 770 is still a powerful satnav device and Nokia can still charge users routing fee as does for a family of Nokia phones. Darius |
Re: Why no free NokiaMaps for Nokia 800 ?
It would be pretty nice I guess but as someone else said just use Maemomapper if you want a free map application. A smart2go port linux port might be a good idea still.
BTW you can pre-load maps from a PC using the Maploader tool with smart2go so its not tied to GPRS/Edge/3g downloads. |

Exactly. I can pre-load maps from a PC using the Maploader tool with smart2go. But it does work with some Symbian Nokia made phones only, but not with Nokia 770/800 (Debian). So finally, please tell me how to watch (smart2go) on Nokia 770/800, acting as a virtual terminal connected to Nokia (Symbian) phone running free NokiaMaps ? Can you port Nokia gsm phone screen to maemo mapper maps window ? Darius |
Re: Why no free NokiaMaps for Nokia 800 ?
There is nothing available today to allow remote access / virtual terminal to a Symbian phone, so it can't be done.
I'm not sure what are you trying to achieve - maybe if you tell us what you want, we can suggest the best way of achieving it... |

Kindly asking only, why free NokiaMaps are not avaliable for Nokia 770/800. Frankly speaking a one second lasting Google query for "virtual terminal" in Symbian gives a number of webpages " Linux : Screen Command Description: -Screen is a utility that allows you to run a shell application in a virtual terminal, giving you the ability to log out and return and still have terminal access to the application. When you log back into the shell, you can enter a command and the application will return. This is a great utility for running game servers remotely. " from http://www.supershareware.com/softwa...-terminal.html TSMobiles (Terminal Service for Mobiles) is excellent for remote accessing to the computer from Java powered phones and Symbian mobiles TSMobiles TSMobiles (Terminal Service for Mobiles) is excellent for remote accessing to the computer from Java powered phones and Symbian mobiles. TSMobiles (Terminal Service for Mobiles) is excellent for remote accessing to the computer from Java powered... Exactly what I mean. But what I mean is remote virtual terminal, to port terminal from Symbian to Debian (from Nokia phone to Nokia 770/800) It is possible/imposible/ now / in near future ? symbian remote virtual terminal http://www.google.com/search?num=100...al&btnG=Search Can you develop any such application porting Symbian to Debian ? Yes, it might be possible, but no one has produced what you are asking for. |

But what about Mobile Web Server by Nokia for Symbian phones ? http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/mobile-web-server/ About The software includes: * A Symbian port of the Apache httpd web server * A connectivity solution that enables HTTP traffic to a mobile device from the Internet. Are we now one step closer to my intended solution on how to test free NokiaMaps on Nokia 770/800 ? Darius |
