aren't you searching for the _stock_ sound files on the n900? i think the stock ones are not ogg but .aac and .wav which should work on the n8 without tweaks (not sure though). are the files you are...

if it says "WSEGL_UseHWSync=1" it is enabled ...but if you don't know this it's propably disabled because this is the dafault setting ;)

is it possible that your HWSync is enabled? - because i've had exactly the same problem some time ago and it only occured if HWSync was enabled.

imho videos recorded with the n900 are .mp4 files too. I think your problem is that the codec or resolution of your video is not supported.

the fact that they want to use Qt for the low/mid-smartphones is another point which makes it sound unlogical to me that they ditch Harmattan. i think devs would be more interested in writing apps...
