Hmm, that seems to have worked! (I didn't try rebooting without resetting the configuration, though---perhaps that would have been enough? But this is Linux, so any problem with the browser should...

I've installed the ad-block plugin (but the problem persists even when I disable it). Oh, and I've installed Firefox. But no, nothing that everyone else hasn't also installed ...
