Anyone willing to trade down?
Hello, I really like my N800, but have decided I also really like to have a (touch) keyboard...
Anyone here willing to trade their N810 for my N800+cash or other gizmos? I have a Emu Proteus 1...

Re: Canadian Strategy - RX-51 Data Plan
Perhaps that is the intent from Fido's side; I did manage to visit my homepage using the built-in browser (looked horrible due to my amateurish CSS skills though), I downloaded Google Mail and Maps...

Re: Canadian Strategy - RX-51 Data Plan
I tried it, and could access many websites from my 5200's built-in (crappy wap) browser. The built-in IMAP email client worked as well (connecting to imap.google.com). My self-written little J2MEE...

Re: Canadian Strategy - RX-51 Data Plan
Anyone else here on Fido prepaid? Two days ago, they started (with very little/no fanfare) the option to buy for $1 24-hour unlimited on-device browsing.
They probably are guessing that no...

Re: Nokia N800 Case
First, I wanted to have a hard case, so I made my own, I found that the case of an old DC600 tape cartridge fits quite well, with some foam padding around the sides and on the lid. I cut out a...

Re: Nokia N900 in Canada (Montreal)
The strange thing is, someone keeps posting a N900 for sale on the Montreal Craigslist ("cell phone" section). While some aspects seem legit (wants to meet in person, with box, etc) the price ($360...

Re: connecting an iPod as a External Hard Drive
I think the problem is the iPod firmware: it won't go into disk mode unless it gets power from the USB port.
However, older iPods (2nd gen, I think, maybe 3rd gen, too) that didn't charge over USB...

Re: connecting an iPod as a External Hard Drive
Ok, I can now correct my previous post and say that the N800 (sorry, I don't have a N810) DOES work, with OTG cable to powered hub! (It's a 60G iPod video, FAT formatted, of course)
And it's even...

Re: connecting an iPod as a External Hard Drive
I can't confirm right now, but I recall it NOT working by default, anyways. I have a standard OTG cable, but not with me ATM - it's either a simple kernel issue (ISTR that the iPod doesn't appear as...

Re: Email app like thunderbird.
I once spent a little effort - but not enough - trying to get offlineimap (http://software.complete.org/software/projects/show/offlineimap) running on my N800 - it works well with GMail, is...

Re: N900 will not allow USB OTG!
Hmmm, I like hooking my Arduino up to my N800. In the N900 PUSH documents, they seem to use a bluetooth-serial adapter ("BlueSMIRF bluetooth modem"). Bummer.

Ditto here for my gf. Bought the $35 Sim kit at a store; then activated by calling customer service. No charge for that. Stuck it into an unlocked phone and was good to go.
And even though I'm...

Re: Angry Canadian
I'm on FIDO (I'm in Montreal) but I simply don't use data. I'm on Pay-as-you-go, and actually, on average, I get away with LESS than $10 a month*. But yes, I use the phone very sparingly; rarely...

Re: Fake n810
While some fakes are (relatively) easy to tell apart, a Nokia employee once told me that some fakes even fool Nokia itself.

Re: Battery charging voltage
Then those numbers make sense, since the (nominal) battery voltage is 3.7V (I think) so the charging voltage just needs to supply something higher than that at a controlled/fixed current. (Including...

Re: highest stereo audio quality
Technically, the highest quality is of course infinite :-)
Realistically, the highest consumer quality audio is uncompressed PCM audio from CDs: 1.44Mbps. That's 2x 16 bits, 44100 times a second....

Re: N810 GPS software - alternatives?
Have you tried "Hike"? I think it's in the standard repositories. You scan a paper map, calibrate using 3 or 4 points, and it can record tracks as well.
I made a calibrated map from the paper map...

Re: so, the nokia tablets do not exist?
As an Amiga owner (still have my 1000 and 3000) I have a mild uncomfortable sense of deja vu. A great platform, easy to hack - but users flock to the platform with mind share. In a vicious circle,...
