For speed rate I'm not sure but maybe you could make a script that would recognize background process and then activate the 3G-GSM change. Then you can use it as custom action in profilmatic... and...

I tested, if I turn ON background connection, and use this rule in profilmatic... It will change GSM to 3G when I'm not in known wifi area. It does not matter if I use interent connection or not.

No... No blue bar, ProfileMatic does not detect there is mobile net connection... Other rules work just fine... Also, I notice that my N9 does not automatic switch to known WiFi... power saver mode...

Yes background connections are off...
To save battery power, I use a GSM Network mode. But when I connect to the internet I'd like profilmatic change GSM to 3G connection.
So I'm in GSM mode... and...

I think you dont need script to automaticly connect to 3G when you start some program (like browser)

Settings - Internet connection - Edit networks - <3G internet/mobile data> - Use automatically...

If anyone's interested, I managed to make a script that does exactly what I wanted. Script will disable WiFi/3G/2G connection, if any of the programs in the list of exceptions not in use.
