Seeing right through the semi-transparent molted exuvia of a cicada. Not an etymologist, but I have a google machine and am gonna call this one a Neotibicen linnei, an annual cicada. When they emerge from the earth where they've spent the last year or 5 sucking on roots, they climb onto something vertical in order to shed the shell that protected them in their underground environment. Often found on tires and trash cans, this one is in the much more natural setting of a nodding onion, itself an interesting plant because it blooms in summer rather than spring like most allium family members.
