Actually the brightness can go a bit lower with patched kernel http://fanoush.webpark.cz/maemo/#backlight but even this I (or better said my SO lying next to me) still consider too bright at night in bed, my palm T2 can go even lower. However it can be solved in FBreader by setting background color to grey to make it darker.
