I just have a quick question... Do you have to really connect your n800 to the computer to upgrade the firmware or is there another way?

You really have to connect your N800 to the computer in order to upgrade the firmware. There is no other way. In the future, you will be able to upgrade the OS by pulling down updates from Nokia (using the Application Manager) over WiFi but for now reflashing the device with a firmware image over USB is the only option.

Application software can be installed without the computer however.

So we're going to have to use the Abominable Application Manager to update critical parts of the IT's firmware?

Hmmm... Does one spell "Aaaarrghhh!" with three or four "h"s?
