I enjoy using claws-mail on my N800 and on my desktop and notebook computers. While claws-mail for Ubuntu (and other distributions) includes spell checking, claws-mail for OS2008 does not seem to include this feature. Is there any way to install a spell checker for claws-mail?

Alternatively, are there any relatively light GUI text editors that include spell checking? I have tried several, including Notes and Leafpad, but they have not included this feature either. OpenOffice via Easy Debian is fantastic but a bit slow to use just to spell check an email, and the current version of Abiword sounds buggy...

Suggestions? Thanks for your help!

If memory serves me right, there are several out there, but they've been a bit on the unstable, slow and problematic side. I know the one for firefox has a habit of crashing the tablet.

Thanks for the reply! Any idea why claws-mail and various text editors do not include spell checking? Dependencies? Performance? Something else?

Performance mostly. At least on the tablets. I think they come standard with it in the regular versions. But resources are at a premium on the tablets, hence they're normally left out since they tend to be a little resource heavy.

I really miss that feature too. From an old post by one of the developers (http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...1&postcount=10) it is mostly because in order to provide the other plugins they'll need to port a lot of dependencies first.

Off topic, sorry about this, the other features I miss most from claws (btw, it is my preferred client too) are to invoke the internet connection and the kinetic scrolling.

Well, maybe when Maemo 5 comes out with the new tablet, they'll be able to port over a bunch of the dependencies and allow more of those features since they'll have more CPU to work with.
