Hey again fellas. I'm not a huge fan of 'sudo gainroot' since it seems so wonky, so I tend to just ssh to localhost. However, there's one part of gainroot that mystifies me, which is the $PATH variable. Does anyone know where it comes from? I've tried the following:
- putting a .profile and .shrc in /root/
- putting a .profile (and .shrc, again) in /home/user/ (this works, BUT only user gets the correct PATH)
- modifying /etc/profile
When I ssh to localhost, of course, I get the correct .profile's variables in /root/, but gainroot doesn't seem to call that. What on earth is it calling, and why do I end up with such a wacky set of default paths? Anyone run into this and solve it?
Why does the default path on the n810 not include /usr/local/bin anyway? Sheesh
