I'm not sure how the current update mechanism works in maemo applications and widgets.

But I would like ALL applications that have scheduled updates to happen all at the same time.

For example, updating my email is every 15mins, rss is 15mins, and weather is every 4 hours.

So it would be better and save battery if there was an update QUEUE, so that when RSS connects to update itself in 15mins so does email, twitter, skype etc. etc. so rather then multiple deamons running for each widget to update itself, we have an overall OS deamon with which you register update events with an calls the appropriate widget telling the widget it's now been 15minutes, or 4hours etc.

Would save battery life because you apps wouldn't be constantly connecting, and reduce number of apps/widgets running their own update mechanism.

What do you think?

Excellent Idea. That makes a lot of sense. A queue would make sense than random widgets trying to use a busy network.

I'm not sure how the current mechanism works for, say your RSS and Email both at 15 min intervals. Do these work at 15 mins from the time you set them?

afaq, while thinking about this, thats exactly the kind of problems I was thinking need to be solved.

Having a update queue manager where you can set updates, to happen every 15mins, and when you add things to the queue it adds it to the closest update match, for example if you set your application to update every 16minutes, then it would update every 15 minutes because thats the closest match.
