It is possible, but can be a bit of a pain to set up and get working. Using a proxy, you won't be able to login to secure sites (proxys won't pass through security) as far as I have found out.
If you can live with the limitations it is an option.

Visiting las vegas in May and need a PAYG sim with data for my n900. I can see I can get the t-mobile payg sim with sidekick option that allows for unlimited data for $1. Anyway I wondered if anyone used it with a n900 so I know it works.
