I am a resident at a large city hospital in new york and currently rely on a palm for day to day use. I think the N800 could be the perfect device to replace my old clie and I am thinking of writing software to track patient data. The only thing missing are the medical referencs I use instead of carrying around half a dozen books-

Some of these are available as ebooks, but it doesn't seem that they have been ported to the N800 platform. If this were the case, I would make the switch in a second. Anybody have any information on this? thanks

What about using references over the web?

unfortunately i do not have wifi access at the hospital. also, I'm not sure the battery would last through my 12-15 hour shifts.

Yeah, good points. You'd obviously have to keep an alternate battery charging in order to do what you want. That's why I'm recommending to the tablet program that they use TWO batteries in future models, enabling hot swap for charging purposes. The form factor could be reduced a bit to help.

I bought an auxiliary battery pack off this site:
http://www.pjbox.co.uk/Archos%20Accessories.htm
(Search for "auxiliary battery"; they obviously had their site designed in 1993)

It takes 4 AA batteries, regular or rechargeable, and will for all intents and purposes more than double the battery life of your N800.

Two caveats:
1. It has an "old style" Nokia tip, so an adapter is necessary.
2. I never got it to work properly with the 770. For some reason it would not charge it completely and often drop out of the charging cycle.
3. (Three caveats! there's the Spanish Inquisition again) This sort of auxiliary charger is more effective if it can drive the device directly, without going through the internal battery, but I'm told (haven't tried it myself yet) that the N800 cannot operate without its battery in situ.

Nokia really should release a hi-power battery pack for the N800 with 50% or even double the capacity of the current one... I'd buy it!
