i use xournal for note taking and i export my .xoj files to pdj and view them on my windows computer using foxit/acrobat reader. the problem is, i can see the text and graphics just fine but when i try to copy text i get random characters.

please see the attached pdf. when i try to copy "the quick brown..."
i get 6JGSWKEMDTQYPHQZLWORUQXGTVJGNC\[FQI

after googling, it seems the fonts in xournal (e.g. sans) aren't supported in windows. i can't seem to find a way to install this font on my computer. is this a foxit/acrobat issue? or do i have to use linux to open my pdf files?

any help would be appreciated

I get the same on Kubuntu Hardy Heron, KPDF.
It looks as if it's ciphered, especially with the repetitive characters.

Code:
6JG SWKEM DTQYP HQZ LWORU QXGT VJG NC\[ FQI +PVGTPGV VCDNGV VCNM
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog Internet tablet talk
KPDF lists the font as: AAAAAA+SwissA
