After installing "Evince", the pdf file will be opened by this application, when double click in file manager.

How can I change such relations between certain file type and applications. I want to use system's pdf reader to open pdf files.

Good you didn't read the previous message, now don't read this one either, but if you're going to read one, read this one:

second thought, you would probably be better off making a file (as root) in /usr/share/applications called defaults.list of the form
[Default Applications]
application/pdf=hildon-osso_pdfviewer.desktop

and then run update-desktop-database

I would like to set MPlayer to automatically open .flv files. What should I put in my defaults.list file?

Now, this is a frighteningly useful bit of information. Is there any more detailed info anywhere on how to use the defaults.list? I also would like to customise some of my defaults, but using:

[Default Applications]
application/avi=mplayer

didnt work, so obviously I need more information on the location of mplayer then just well, mplayer. I assumed it wouldnt be that simple but I was unsure of just what exactly needs to be added...

more information on this can be found at:

I am still wading through it, but there is a lot more to it than just the defaults.list (of course, why wouldnt there be....)
