It has already been posted a lot of time (since the update that removed red pill mode).

when using apt-get dpkg works in the background.
i always use apt-get remove or apt-get purge (if i want to remove the configs too).
afterwards i make apt-get autoremove to uninstall the additional packages which were installed with the removed program but not uninstalled automatically. ^^

whats the difference between dpkg -i and dpkg -r?
yesterday i installed a deb-file using dpkg -i on the new firmware.
worked fine.
also, this deb-package appears in the filemanager and is uninstallable just like all other "officially" installed apps.

I tried the "dpkg -r package.deb" to remove an app I installed this way and got the message "dpkg: you must specify packages by their own names, not quoting the names of the files they come in."
So how can I find the name of a specific package to remove it?
The package in question is the VLC player. I got the files from : http://www.remlab.net/files/vlc/fremantle/
I know its very much a work in progress, so I wasnt expecting much.
The UI is a mess and Mplayer runs much better than it at the moment. Just want to know how to remove it since it dosnt show up in the app manager.
