I 've had a maemo device sine the N700 and the two in between so I do love the N900 as a device but its still flawed for business use. And that is sad

1, why does it seem like the whole mail box has to be refreshed whenever I go to any of my accounts inbox. Why cant it just show the mails straight away and then refresh. I have had to wait minutes sometimes to be able to re look at a mail that is already on the device and when you want an important piece of info right away its terrible.

2, I still cant copy from a received mail unless I do the work around of replying and copying from that.

Also, there are some nice business apps that I have used on this and my N810 gnumeric and abiword. How do I set them as the default app so I can open word docs from email without having to save first?

BTW - the gold batteries are pants. Just got one to test. Its a battery but no better (poss worse) than standard... It was cheap though so as a spare battery, which is required if you want to use the n900 all day, its OK.

I stayed with Blackberry Pearls at work instead of changing to the n900's based upon the very poor exchange support compared to BES

Business environment and N900. Oh dear :| You probably have to do some work TO N900 and enjoy it

But to get in this issue with slow email sync i think we hav e had some threads here lately about this. Let´s search.

Thanks for the moderately patronising reply to point 1, though as I don't have the option to change stuff at the server end it is limited.... and ideas on 2 and the latter.

Changing default programs would be very nice as who really wants to pay for a set of "viewers" when there are some great apps already out there that allow full use.

And am I being dim, but the copy text function in an email did not seem to get fixed in PR1.2???

Neither did I but it was 6 quid so ideal as a spare as its comparable to the standard and cheaper. Clearly I'd not need it if the battery lasted a whole day... but alas. There are loads of threads on this already so lets park the comment

txt copying in email(modest) works (pretty usable) by pressing shift and trying to mark text with finger and then ctrl-c.

For the e-mail prob: Wohoo this one has bothered me as well! Glad to see that you can do it after all in Modest.

It baffles me that there is no free-as-in-freedom (Stallman doesn't like the term open source) email client with a nice touch interface readily available for porting.

How nice for me, then, that I support open source as a philosophy in its own right, not merely by following one man, no matter how much he's done for it.

Yes, RMS doesn't like terms which don't require explanation due to confusing pre-existing usage. He also doesn't like systems that are viable in the real world (i.e. not 100% pure), so it's not horribly surprising that neither him nor any of his followers have written one -- what would they run it on?

Seriously, there's been relatively little space for an open-source touch-friendly client -- the highest-profile touch-based platform actively antagonistic to open-source development, and while nothing has stopped some open-source development on other (mostly mobile) platforms, it's historically atypical on most of them. And then there's Maemo, where men are men and port desktop apps and use them with their styluses while griping about the inaccuracies of capacitive screens.

To me, it's not surprising at all... there might be something from openmoko, but (as an admitted outsider) it seems like they never made it past alpha on one version before they tore everything down and rebuilt with a new toolkit.

Of course, the built-in mail client, Modest, is GPLed, so it's not like anyone wanting to fix it (and knowing how) can't start a fork.
