When I delete an email from the built-in email app on the N900, then log into gmail.com, I find that the email I just deleted has been moved to my gmail account's "All Mail" folder instead of the "Trash" folder. Anyone else experience this?

Further look showed that emails that I thought I have been deleting on my N900 are still on my gmail.com account in the All Mail folder.. never were deleted since they were not moved to Trash folder, ahh!

Any thoughts?

Gmail uses imap deletes to mark messages archived, does not matter what client you use (happens with my thunderbird too)

And when you think of it more it kinda makes sense in many ways, it's just not "intuitive" to someone who's used to the classic way of managing mail ("The GMail way" is different and annoys me so I use IMAP just about exclusively to access my gmail box)

Hm, that is strange. I would have expected mail to be deleted when I click delete, hah. Anyway, is there not a way to 'really' delete an email from gmail.com when using the built-in client and gmail on my n900?

http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=77657 shows how IMAP commands map to Gmail actions.

Oh yeah there is! Open up the message you want to delete in your email app. Tap the top bar and then press the "Move Message" button. And then simply move the message to the "[Gmail]/Trash" folder!

That's it!

Thanks, this is exactly what I would like on my N900: "**Note: Please note that if you're using an iPhone or iPod touch with software version 1.1.3 or later and you automatically configured Gmail by tapping the large 'Gmail' logo during setup, messages trashed from your iPhone will be moved to the [Gmail]/Trash folder rather than the [Gmail]/All Mail folder. Learn more"

From the sound of your replies, that is currently not an option for us..?

Ah, interesting, thank you. I'd still prefer to modify this somehow as in my previous post, but this will certainly serve as a temp. solution.

Still no way to make pressing trashcan-icon mark the gmail-messages as 'trash' and not just removing the inbox label?
