What have you done to very that the jave vm is working? I read a post somewhere once where someone compile a java vm and thought it was working but in fact it was only a javascript function and no actual java was running

This is a standalone JRE for running Java applications, not an Opera plugin.
Being able to compile:
...on the device, and run it from the terminal is pretty conclusive that you're running Java code.

TA-t3: this is j2se, not j2me =/ j2me remains my holy grail, mostly for the google apps.

Ah, thanks. I wasn't aware of any difference there, but I tried Opera Mini on my desktop now - won't work.

Sorry guys, hadn't time to post them anywhere yet.. busy at work.

I have repackaged the .deb files so that this Java VM and compiler for Java 1.4 work also on the Nokia N800.
If you guys wish and aleksandyr give me permission, I can upload it to the maemo downloads (http://downloads.maemo.org)
I will provide links to them asap anyway.
