we should start to think about how we will distribute the donated money..
As already discussed: Emulators, Ports and existing Applications with "some" new functions are a little bit hard for the average user to compare them to fresh, with a lot effort and only in a few months totally new build applications. Some community members will only see the result.
Perhaps, if we able to, we could run at the end during the voting a second vote, all applications together and only the developers are allowed to vote. They are not able to vote for their own Application. But they have enought background knowledge to see how much effort a application took or not.
This is a seperate vote, and outside the contest. There shouldn't be a normal price as in the contest. And also no sponsored flight. Only a appreciation from the other programmers that knows how hard it is to create a good application and perhaps a symbolic prize. Perhaps a strange Device, to develop new ideas and applications with. Something "like" this: Sony Ericsson LiveView

At previous AppLabs developers got MeeGo hardware to take home. This time? Come and see for yourself!
I'm sure. Simple but shiny ports wont have a chance at a developers vote. Only the really hard stuff could resist.

Several Developers liked my idea, but no reaction from you, zehjotkah. So I guess you have thought about it and decided that this is not possible. Am I right? Or have we not enought prizes?[/url]

I meant how we'll distribute the donated money. I think we should just distribute it to the 4th place...

The solution from last year was to distribute the money among the second and third places.
This year I would propose to distribute the money among the fourth places only, as we have
- already great prizes for the first three places
- as of now less money
- as of now less submissions
I hope the last two points will still change, though.
I hope something could stop M$...

Okay, I understand you points. As far as I know was the money last year spread over the second, third and fourth place.
The Nokia/Linux foundation prize was a lot more valuable than what the 1st place would have been, so we felt it was better to spread the collected bounty out to more people. However i remember not everyone was happy with this arrangement, in particular one of the low points for me was that one of our members (Gary) was unhappy that his donation would be used in this way (he felt strongly that the 1st place winner should also get a share of the bounty). But he's probably forgotten all about it now, so nobody remind him
It's would be a good idea to get this confirmed asap though so people will know exactly how their donation will be used.
But you're right. The donations are not that hight as last year.
Perhaps some programmers are waiting until they have something ready to distribute. Perhaps they are afraid to show it now and nobody is interested at the end of june?
But a very present fact is bugging us this year. The Community was last year a lot stronger and more euphoric.I hope something could stop M$...

If i was working for Intel in charge of distributing devices to the community, I'd have suggested reaching out to the developers from the last competition and, if they were interested in the platform, giving them a tablet/notebook pre-loaded with MeeGo to work on and a link to the comp wiki page. But then again, Im biased
Has anyone reached out to the previous entrants to make sure they are aware of the new competition and to ask if they are thinking of entering this time?

Donations among the fourth places is okay if we have enought for place 1 to 3.
As long as we have something substantial for 1-3 (prizes, share of bounty, whatever) then it doesnt hurt to spread it out a bit further to 4th. In truth there's not much left when it gets to 4th place, but the winners seemed very appreciative last time
