Do not try to uninstall the power-kernel from the app manager - it will fail. You can uninstall by either clicking the 'Deinstall Kernel' icon in the menu (very slightly risky, but best for n00bs) or by following the manual deinstallation instructions found here (completely safe if done carefully): http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#Deinstallation

That it might fail (unlikely, but possible) and you will need to flash the kernel manually. You said you tried to follow the manual deinstallation instructions and failed, so just do it the n00b way and click the 'Deinstall Kernel' icon. If it doesn't work, just follow the manual instructions again carefully.
