I am trying to decide which phone to upgrade to, looking at one that I will eventually be able to use with a data plan to use as a last resort modem for a n8x0....here are a couple I was thinking about, advice, suggestions, and experiences with phones would be great. Looking for a device thats mainly a phone vs a blackberry.

AT&T/Cingular service

Motorola Razr v3

Thanks for the info!

I also found the Nokia 6555 today, its the same price as the SYNC, and would also strongly consider the RAZR v3xx since I have read a lot posts stating it works great, its a lot more than the 6555 or the SYNC unfortunately.

From the phones on the list I would go with the Sync. For the price (can be had for free after rebate with the upgrade) I think its the best 3g modem on the list. I am also thinking about picking up a throw away 3g phone as a modem myself.

Well, this one wouldn't be a throw away and would be a nice upgrade from my nokia 6030

Thanks for the info!

Nokia N95-3 (the US one with 3g data on AT&T's network).
I love mine...Garmin's map app works well on it and since Garmin's HQ is a few blocks from my apartment the map coverage here is pretty damn good.
Is it expensive? Yes. Will it be worth it for the next 2+ years? Yes.
Needless to say, the bluetooth tethering with the N800/N810 is spot on.
