I know Its possible on N900 to integrate various IMs with Telepathy plugins. Can anybody tell me how skype works? Is there any branch of telepathy for skype? I found that telepathy-spirit branch is closed which is for skype integration. But, if the branch is closed and no work is going on, how is skype working with telepathy? Is there any propreitery stuff in this?

Skype is already included in N900 by default.

So you have answered your question yourself. :-)

As it is closed software ("closed" refers to the restrictive license the code is under), it IS proprietary. But your assumption that no work is going on is wrong.

Does that mean Skype on N900 is not with telepathy?

The first part of the package name "telepathy-spirit" which provides the Skype integration on the N900 has been chosen on purpose. For future reference, I don't get what "with telepathy" means but I think I've answered your question already.

This is basically what i found : "The Nokia N900 features Maemo software. Maemo brings the power of computers to mobile devices. Designed with the internet at its core, Linux-based Maemo software takes Nokia smartphones into a new era of mobile computing."
I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for but there are other methods of skype integration for your phones. I'm still confused about the telepathy part though so if anyone understands this please explain!

Thanks!

Skype support in Nokia N900 is devided into 2 parts (both closed).

1. skyhost - proprietary skype's arm binaries (skyhost, videohost, voicehost) - which is used not only on N900 but in a lot of SIP/asterisks/voice routers. It is basicaly full support console skype client which communite on unix sockets

2. telepathy-spirit - proprietary telepathy plugin (I think from Nokia) which add skype support to telepathy. It communicate directly with skyhost.

It is it what you asked?
