This simply lets developers advertise that their apps are available in the market. This has worked for iOS for quite some time, and should help Android exposure greatly.

Oh God! Yeah! That was a one-day Woot deal! So it's as dead as a Maemo already?? Incredible... I was considering one of those. How hackable has it turned out? I remember reading that it was rooted and potentially pretty hackable. It so, it'd still be a worthwhile thing to buy dead manufacturer or not. I agree, though, I'd prefer a low-censorship site. I wonder if XDA would open up a forum for it if there were enough requests?

If I didn't already have a Dell Mini and a Galaxy Tab, I would have DEFINITELY gotten one by now. On the other hand, that 10" size is just a smidge too big for portability. I can't stress that enough--clearly I can't say it enough times, too.

I love it otherwise. I would STILL get it if I knew that I could run a native Debian on it. Make it happen, Asus!

XDA has an area for Edge discussion, but people have decided to unify around Mobilread for now.

The one I bought was the 7 inch one. It is way way deader than Maemo I think they are selling the cobblestones now, or whatever you do at the end of shutting down.

The huge adavantage Maemo has is at least there are plenty of sophisticated developers left. There seem to be zero developers in the Entourage Edge crowd. There are some really good people who love their devices, and some pretty good hackers.

The state the device was left in is shocking. Would you believe that Entourage left its users without the ability to adequately use their SD cards? And many marketplaces are not usable, and Entourage has closed its. The only way you can use the Google marketplace, for example, is to have an android device that already works with Google marketplace, and transfer programs from it to your Entourage Edge.

So the answer to your question is yes, it's probably hackable, but there is no one who knows how to hack it like, say, a Color Nook.

The area staked out on mobilread is like an island, and talented people keep washing up on the beach, so there is still hope that a critical mass of talent will forrn and do some reall hacking, but that seems to be a distant prospect for now.

That should be criminal. If a car maker or a home appliance maker did that, there would be lawsuits abound over lack of supporting a product, repairs and other issues that they stuck a customer with.

Poor financial planning, bro.

ARM's strategy (as told by ARM) was not to rely on future earnings, but what was available today. This a good strategy. It seems that far too many small businesses speculate based on enthusiasm rather than real numbers. The manufacturers of the EE seems to be one of these companies.

That bag looked too much like a lock to me. Had to read before I figured out it was a shopping bag. Not sure what effect that will have.

I'm sure that the shopping cart (as used by Amazon) is probably already trademarked by Amazon. God only knows that they would trademark such a common-sense symbol and then sue anything even remotely similar with a shopping cart.

The bag... not so much. Although, I'd love to see a Ruth Buzzy bus-stop lady Android beating an Apple fanboy with her Android bag.

Interestingly a lock may convey the idea of security...

Yes, the graphic is somewhat poorly done (Android really needs some solid graphic designers on board), but it's a symbol, and the content matters less than the presence.

Now sites will be able to advertise Android without having to spell it out, and that's pretty significant.

A rumor has it that the Galaxy Tab 7 is getting a refresh:

The Galaxy Tab 7 is getting refreshed with a 1.2GHz chip. By all indications its the same brain as the Galaxy S2, which means the ultra capable Exynos 4210, and one of the fastest devices on the market! Certainly faster than Tegra 2 devices at most tasks.

This device should have some incredibly chops, especially if the resolution remains 1024x600.

Amazing.

The Tegra 2 version is loaded with more shaders and as such, prettier graphics, than other variants.

The game looks quite good.

It costs €7.99 in the app market, which is a bit steep. However, if it's a long and engrossing adventure, I suppose it would be worth it.
