What is equally frustrating is opening a thread and finding a post that refers to something that can be easily linked to...

The problem with back-up data may simply be the cookies saved from the last browser version.
Clearing all cookies may solve the problem without having to re-flash...
I upgraded manually with RX-34_2008SE_1.2007.44-4_PR_COMBINED_MRO_ARM.bin.
I also tried
RX-44_2008SE_1.2007.42-19_PR_COMBINED_MRO_ARM.bin
but it wouldn't even install.
Then I downgraded to the latest 2007 OS and it worked fine.
I'd like to upgrade to the 2008SE. Any suggestions?
Thanks
