The phone itself will probably do fine up to around 100c, but the problem is the battery. Li-ion batteries are very very unhappy with high temperatures, and you will drastically reduce their lives. At constant 40c, the battery will die in less than a year.

Probably the wifi acesspoint has no, or buggy, support for wifi powersaving.
