Okay, i really need help with this.

but you may want to modify the config for your needs.

    MODIFIED MINI-AB CABLE

To modify a mini-AB cable for N800 host mode, you need to cut the metal
shielding off at mini-A end so the mini-A connector will fit into the mini-B
socket on N800. This modification will make the cable not stay in the socket
very well, so a mini-B to mini-B cable may be a better option.

Customizing a mini-AB cable has the advantage of grounding the USB ID pin for
role switching, and the software hack above is not needed to switch the role.

Note that mini-A connector cannot be forced to be peripheral end as it grounds
the ID line. When grounded, software cannot drive it up with a pull-up.

It should be also possible to replace the mini-B connector on N800 with a
mini-AB connector, but that is a risky operation and you may ruin your board.
I'd assume this will also void the warranty, so I don't recommend it.
Can anyone tell me what i need exactly and what i should do? All these A and B are just confusing me to no end, and i honestly don't know what's the difference.

    How about OS 2008?
Will the N800 get OTG ability too?

I am thinking about changing the connector to a mini-AB

The mini-AB cable is optional. At least with OS2007 such cable won't help you much since there is lot of stuff you need to do by hand anyway. The mini-AB will only give you possibility of automatic switch to host mode. You can still switch modes by hand so such cable is not strictly needed.

Currently (with a lot of manual fiddling) it is possible to use just usb female to female adapter and original usb cable that came with N800. Then you can connect low power devices like flash disk, mouse (won't do much) or keyboard. For more power hungry devices you need powered hub or Y cable with additional power (haven't tried Y cable).

Does that mean a USB-Keyboard would actually work?

    What about USB-Harddisk or USB-LAN-Adapter?
