No, as said previously, the SoC, RAM and the root flash are a single chip (even if it wasn't, most complex components today are BGA, which means that they are not resolderable).

BGA is resolderable with infrared soldering stations (or pro hotai soldering stations with correct skill), but still, if its integrated with CPU, it's impossible. Even if no, You're very unlikely to find different RAM with the same connection - most of the time it's custom bulid for given PCB.

Anyway, I think many of Us are familliar with Open Pandora project (if no, google it - its already done, finished, succed). Many times i wondered if same could be possible to make Meego run device, for example with Hildon UX via Cordia project. I don't see why not - probably biggest problem would be with GSM modem and overall phone funcionality, but I'm sure its possible to overcome.

A reward would be invaluable - N900-like device (maybe very little bigger) with 1GB RAM, multitouch, dual SD or microSD card slot (i personally preffer SD, they're faster/cheaper, and who care about little weight increase?) and DVI output via miniHDMI

Also true, ever looked at a Graphics card or PC RAM, the Chips don't have pins here, the connection is under the chip (between chip and PCB), i got board one day and the only way i could remove the chip was to heat up the PCB with a torch on the other side of the of the PCB, now this practice can't be done on the N900 because on the other side there are more chips, also this "method" will also destroy connections in the multi-layer PCB.

Infra-red stations can heat up only desired portion of PCB, while effectively cooling other areas by means of decompressing air.

Still, i think that replacing RAM in N900 is next to impossible and If someone want real open source N0, doing so like Open Pandora is only one way Nokia WON'T bring us anything interesting in foreseeable future. And, before anyone ask, N9 isn't interesting thing, to be honest :/

The SOC has pins (well, balls) both on the bottom (for connecting to pcb) and top (for connecting to the RAM+OneNAND chip). Or was the onenand integrated in the emmc chip? I forget...

So yeah it's not "integrated", only soldered onto the SOC ;-)
