Also, is it true that solar charger damages the battery?
Does it have or need a stabilizer?
Or how can I find out if it does?

I successfully used this one. Should work the same way.

However:
For the model I bought some years ago, there was no micro usb port adapter. You cannot directly use the USB A adapter with a USB to micro USB cable to charge a N900 with a charger (by opposition to a pc USB port). You need to have an adapter/cable for which the d+ and d- contacts (micro usb side) are soldered. I had to do this to make it work. Now my N900 charges with the battery and with the solar panel (before it refused with both).

So you better ask them if the micro usb adapter on this one is USB compliant (meaning, d+ and d- are shortcuted). If not, you'll have to do it yourself. Not a big deal but still.

I use the same Powermonkey explorer and it charges fine using the phone's own data cable and the usb-a adapter
