I agree; a working webDAV plugin would be great and very useful.
What's up with that webDAV plugin written by Michael Stapelberg. Is there anybody who's able to get it working on the n900?

Solved:

Ok, I contacted Michael, he said: "Please try installing libneon. I’ve heard that the dependencies might not be setup correctly so that you need to install that on your own."

The package can be found here: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-d.../libn/libneon/ (I also attached it to the post)

Download the libneon_0.29.3_armel.deb package to your device and then install it through the terminal (how to install: http://thenokiablog.com/2010/01/28/h...00-x-terminal/). Using the Maemo Application Manager will result in a compatibility error (don't know why), so you have to use the terminal.
When the installation is finished the webDAV plugin will work like a charm, and is very usefull.

Hello
Frustrated following this and other threads...
I'm still looking for a way to integrate some web storage /space into my working environment(s) - which means my N900, too. I'm talking of some real cross-platform solution, so imo only smb, nfs or webdav are in question. Webdav seems to be the only widely supported protocol - and it makes me ill there does'nt seem to be a way to get things up and running on maemo. I'm relatively sure I'm not the only one...
Can anybody please bring light into this?
I've installed the webdav-sharing plugin and (manually) libneon. I cannot find changes in (any) filemanager, programmanager or browser. Can you please tell me, how it is intended to work? There does not seem to be a single line of documentation.
What do you mean by 'it works like charm'?
Any help is welcome

The webdav plugin makes use of the "share accounts" functionality in Maemo 5, and that part works like a charm for me. If you've installed webdav plugin and libneon correctly Meamo will give jou the following option:
Settings -> Sharing accounts -> New -> Select service -> Webdav (here you have to configure your webdav account)

If configured correctly the plugin works like this:
Filemanager options -> Share -> 'Select file' -> Share -> Share via service -> Webdav
The selected file will be uploaded to the webdav folder associated with your webdav account.

Thus, this plugin only gives you the ability to upload files to a webdav server, if you want to access and move around files in a webdav folder you have to mount the folder to your filesystem I guess you need the lighttpd-dav-gui package from the repository to do this, but I'm not sure about that because I never used it.
I hope this is the help you need, good luck.

Hi, I have tried this plugin but once I have configured it, when you click on 'Validate', it crashes the Settings application.

Has anybody experienced the same behaviour?

Do you know whether this plugin supports https? (that might be the problem...).

Do you know any other WebDAV client on the n900?

Thanks in advance

I believe this is the only WebDAV client available for us on Maemo.

I think my biggest problem is finding a WebDAV service that I can use for free and that supports Dropbox. Does anyone know of another service besides DropDav (at dropdav.com)?

I never tried Secure WebDAV, so I can't tell you if the validation error occurs because of the secure connection, I never experienced the same behavior, but I sounds plausible that the problem occurs because of the secure connection.
You can always ask Michael Stapelberg, the author of the plugin, for information, you can contact him via his site http://michael.stapelberg.de/webdav-plugin.html.

I'm using the plugin in combination with my own WebDAV server (apache2), it works very well, but I know nothing of the behavior of the plugin with other servers and services.

I'm quite sure there is no other plugin or application that let you access WebDAV shares.
However, Nautilus (the default GNOME file manger) has native WebDAV connectivity. As Maemo is based on Debian GNU/Linux and draws much of its GUI, frameworks, and libraries from the GNOME project, it must be possible to port/whatever the WebDAV connectivity to Maemo.

It won't be me doing the porting though, I'm a social scientist and historian, as you can imagine; I don't have the needed skills to port...

There is another for the command line, try davfs2. It lets you mount WebDAV URLs via the mount command as root user. You can make a custom desktop shortcut to mount a dav-share via the desktop (install gainroot to have sudo mount ...). If the mount point is in /media/dav you can access the WebDAV share via file manager!!!

Installation instruction can be found here and here in German (the original i used).

davfs2 depends on libneon which installs version 0.29.3 but after installation in the filesystem you have libneon.so.27.2.3.

To get SSL support for webdav you must install libneon-gnutls.so.27.2.3 (libneon.so.27.2.3 with SSL/TLS support) and edit the symlinks /usr/lib/libneon.so and libneon.so.27 to point to /opt/maemo/usr/lib/libneon-gnutls.so.27.

Then you also can mount https:// URLS.

I didn't succeed to achieve this for the sharing plugin-webdav.

Both packages unfortunately don't work with NetStorage DAV Server from Novell ("Basic Authentication rejected"). Any clues on this?

Hope this helps.
