Actually, if you read the thread, I was talking about onsale.com, not Nokia.

I wasn't responding to your post. I was responding to the topic of the thread.

It might surprise you to find 800xYYY is gaining share rapidly due to handheld devices. + it can be a needed resolution outside of University networks for compliance with access too the visually impaired.

Most smalll form factor devices out there do 800xYyy, right now. Screen density below around 7 inches is too grainy and requires ro to design highly static (tearing is a ***** and is why the iphone is 800x480) or 8bit quality design (not 8bit graphics)

Yeah short of sneaker net windows does suck at this. But with Unix Services for Windows for nfs, or use openssh (runs native on windows) I move stuff around at wire spead.

But a new IT? No way. Not even at $200.
Kinda causes you to ask the question, am I complaining because I can't do it in exactly the way I'm used to, or am I complaining because it isn't done for me. Hey it could be worse, try managing Win2k through a pager(sucks trust me). I agree sometimes you need a large screen and a keyboard, but when all you really need is a way to unstick a bit my n800 is a dream.

I'm not going to defend onsale.com because I read the online reviews and opted to go through buy.com for about $15 more when ordering my n800 on 01-Dec.

However... buy.com is only a little more forthcoming with info here. Finally on 08-Dec, after three emails from me, they finally admitted that the item was back ordered. No ETA. At the same time (and still today), they are listing the item online at the site new shoppers will see as "Usually ships in 1-2 days" instead of "out of stock" or "on order" ... although I doubt anyone will order today since their price is suddenly $369.70 (if you can believe that)!

Having said ALL of this... I'm still not cancelling my order with them yet because of hope I'm clinging to based on the following link:

    http://tabletblog.com/2007/12/n800-is-is-not-dead.html

Having read that, I'm beginning to believe that the item may be in transition and I'm going to hope that my delivery, though likely much later than I wanted it, might be a new n800 with the new OS2008 installed. Just maybe ...

Hope springs eternal in the blissfully ignorant.

UPDATE: Murphy strikes again (in my favor) .. status is now "Shipped 10-Dec" (actually still sitting waiting for FedEx to pick up from warehouse) with ETA 14 Dec. Hooray for blissful ignorance.
