Can I assume that it safe to put the installables on the memory card and not the main memory? Where do executables go, and if I remove the memory card, will the application be safe?

At some point I'll have a linux laptop to interface with, but for the time being I have a windows box to trade some gnumeric files with. What's the fastest/easiest way to move files from windows to nokia 770?
