in the last few days my N900 refuses to log into the facebook chat. I deleted the facebook account from the phone and made a new account, but it only helped for one day and now the chat can't log in again (network error). I haven't installed anything new. what could be the problem?

have you enabled the HTTPS connection ? Changed your PW? :P

dunno if that helps, but if yes turn off the HTTPS connection in FB and try again.

I do have HTTPS but it's not new. I disabled it now but it doesn't help.
    what is PW?
I haven't done anything new with the phone since I can remember.
something similar happened to me about 6 months ago, it was like this for about a week and then it was ok again, just by itself. I hope this will turn out to be the same.

I encountered this problem today, and I have https enabled.

I received the following in email yesterday, but I didn't think it is in any way related to Maemo. Also, Skype still works in the integrated IM.

You are receiving this email because you have used instant messaging (IM) from the Contacts application on your Nokia phone.

Your Contacts instant messaging account can now be used to access the new Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo! service. Nokia and Yahoo! have partnered to provide you with this enhanced IM service, which lets you chat with your Ovi and Yahoo! Messenger friends, providing you with an even larger community for chatting. You can access this service by switching to the Chat application from Nokia by following the instructions provided at http://nokia.mobi/chatupdate .

As a result of this enhancement, the IM feature of the Contacts application will be discontinued on August 1, 2011. To continue sending and receiving instant messages from your Ovi friends after this date, you must begin using the Chat application. Open the following link to get detailed instructions on getting started with Chat – http://nokia.mobi/chatupdate .

We hope you take these simple steps to continue using the service. It’s part of our goal to deliver a consistent IM experience and more quickly realize the benefits of our partnership with Yahoo!. Not only are enhancements to your mail and chat experience coming via this global partnership, we are also hard at work on better, more innovative Ovi experiences that help you make the most of your Nokia phone. Stay tuned.

Please note that address book synchronization from the Contacts application and the website are not affected by this notice. You can continue using both without taking additional action.

    Sincerely,
    Ovi by Nokia

    EDIT:
Well, I removed Trillian and Nimbuzz from FB, from my "allowed to access FB chat" applications, then logged out and back in. Now chat works on Maemo. I've no idea whether this was just a temporary glitch, or whether the two apps had something to do with it. I installed both recently (Trillian on Windows and Nimbuzz on Symbian), but FB chat did work nevertheless until today...

Perhaps a simple login/logout in browser helped.
