Ah, and by the way... It works great from all 4 N900 Desktops or all 9 if you have increased their numbers. Just go to the Desktop view with the Widgets and begin typing at your PC a name. Your N900 will immediately show up the contact search - you are able to start now a call - initiated by your PC.

In case a Amiga Game Emulator is correctly classified in the Fun and Strage section instead of Games my Desktop Keyboard forwarding app is clearly the third submission in the Desktop categorie even if the communication protocol could imply other facts.

So is it now official? The Competition ends today but I'm able to update my submissions until the voting will begin? Or is everything blocked tomorrow?

Are there a exact date for the voting or will it be a surprise? (I guess as soon as everything is prepared - am I right?)

Anyway, I'm prepared, ready and very tired. I just realized that I have now 5 submissions at this small competition.

Sad that about 5-6 hours of work and code changes are perhaps not enought. Otherwise I would now add a sixth application... The LinuxVDR support for my DreamRemote project. I'm still not sure. Well, 5 projects could be enought and it is anyway only made for a very special target audience.

Okay. I wanted only to write something. This thread is surprisingly silent today!
Just saying...

Hmm ,, I see zehjotkah has been tweeting past couple of days so he must have some internet access, I'll send him a message to ask if he can come back to the thread to clear up things.

Edit: done

Hi!
Sorry for my absence. The funny thing is, that I tweeted that it would be the only and last tweet for this day...
Yes, the competition is now freezed for new entries, that means no new entries are allowed except for the Desktop (Widgets) catergory with still only three submissions.
You can still update your existing submission to the latest version, clean up your submission text, add screenshots and so on. Preparing your submission for the voting process.
The voting will start sometime next week.

Anything uncovered?

Hmm.. I think so... can you take a look at my post on the previous page, I think there's still a few things listed there uncovered. The wiki still doesn't mention an extension, it is still showing that no further apps can be submitted at this time.

The competition runs from 01 April 2011 to 31 July 2011. After that no further submissions will be accepted and the winners will be elected by the community.
I hope this will not leave the competition open to legal challenge if a new submission should win a prize. This needs updated yesterday.

There doesnt seem to be any announcement of the extension other than a couple of words in a post on here. I think we need to get this out more, if we're extending it to get more Desktop apps then we really need to let people know it has been extended (twitter/MWKN/wiki/anything else). Also, as far as I can see, there's no update at all on the meego forum for the extension. And has someone contacted the desktop category participants to make sure they know about the extention so there's no confusion.

Im stuck behind a work filter so Im limited what i can do at the moment, if anyone can help zehjotkah out with these for a start?

I've updated this to

The competition for all categories other than Desktop (Widgets) ended 31 July 2011. New submissions to the Desktop (Widgets) category will be accepted until 7 August 2011 inclusive. Voting will then take place for all categories.

Thanks marxian, Ive followed your lead and updated the MeeGo forum using the same date (August 7th)

We're extending the deadline for the Desktop and Widgets category by a further week, so the new deadline for this category is August 7th. This category had the lowest number of submissions so the extension is to allow a little more time to try and collect a few more. All the other categories are now closed, so you'll have to wait for the next competition if you missed out

You can have a look through the entries on the competition homepage http://competition.meetmeego.org/

Remember to keep an eye on the official competition news thread for more updates on when voting will commence. We're going to need your help to pick the winners
I think part of the reason there aren't as many entries for this category is that widgets are (perhaps) not as straightforward to develop as 'normal' apps. Are there any resources we can link to that show how to develop desktop widgets, for example? A quick Google search returns a couple of old blog posts and a bit of code on the nokia developer site. Are there any easy to follow tutorials for creating a desktop widget using Qt Creator out there?

marxian, as I know you have a widget for cutetube, and anyone else with widgety experience, able to write up a quick guide to developing a desktop widget with Qt? Even a skeleton of a guide? It would be good to have it

Sorry, I'm currently very busy.

But here is a beginning for our small list using Qt:
Any good python examples or step by step instructions?

I developed a Qt widget a while back. I won't be submitting it to the competition, but I will gladly write a short guide if I get time. Am currently not home and don't know when I will be, so if someone else beats me to it, it'll be better for the competition.

I have a feeling Oculo will win anyway...

The above guide is the one that I used for my cuteTube widget. I just replaced the QLabel widget with an instance of QDeclarativeView and loaded the main QML file.

There is also Quick Widgets. You only need to write the QML code and load the main QML file. Quick Widgets does the rest. You don't need to know anything about how homescreen widgets work.
