Hello all,

a quick question about OS2008 on the N800: can the map software (WayFinder if I'm not mistaken?) included in OS2008 for N800 be used as a stand-alone application, without any GPS device?

In other words, can the mapping software be used as an electronic map (a bit like GoogleMaps), just to lookup a location/POIs, without having a GPS paired with the N800?

thanks in advance!

I used Maemo Mapper on my N800 without GPS in just the way you want - I now use it with a $30 GPS unit. I downloaded Google Maps and Satillite images and POI for New York whan I went on vacation there last month and manually panned and scrolled around the map stored on my SD Card.

I find Maemo Mapper to be much better than the WayFinder software for what I need.

I know it's slightly off topic, but would you specify what GPS unit you have?
