Im not so good with the technical bits so a bit worried about changing the display. Is it easy to do? You would recommend I try it if Ive never done something like this before?
Thank you for the advice Dragoss and Robbie.

It is relatively easy to change the LCD, however if you are not technical you may even consider sourcing your own LCD (ebay/internet/whatever) for about £30 and taking it to a mobile phone chop-shop. Say they charge you around £20 (depends where you go) you suddenly add around £100 worth of value to your 'broken' N900...
By technical I mean assembled/dis-assembled electronics with patience and care of a technician before. Not a lifehacker reading, arduino toting art/tech spazz who thinks their latest black and white HDR shots of converse branded non-prescription glasses is a valuable contribution to society.
Changing the screen is very easy to do, if you have mechanical dexterity and simple patience. It would be worth it. There are service manuals as well as videos on YouTube showing how.
The screen itself can be bought on eBay or other sites, for anywhere from $40 USD to $100 USD.
Hi Robbiethe1st Ive had a quick look on Ebay and you are correct, there are even some bricked N900s that sold for £80 just for parts!
Remember, though... the people in the 'know' know that the N900 really *isn't* brickable, and they figure they've got an 80% chance they can simply flash it and sell it as working. Figure a <20% chance someone's actually dropped/OCed it to death.
I only skimmed the thread, is it the LCD or the digitizer? I have a digitizer I'd part with for $20 (my cost). I attempted to replace it but the aluminum screws are very soft....I stripped mine attempting to disassemble because I had a very light scratch on the screen so the digitizer never got used. I should post the part but if it's just the digitizer I have the part to go in hand with his phone. To the person looking to purchase for repair if you've not done it wear kid-gloves when turning those screws.
After watching that screen replacement video it seems easy enough. Will give it a go myself. I was wondering though (It wasnt clear on the speeded up vid) does replacing the screen also replace the clear plastic on the front? Is the screen and the clear plastic the same unit? The screen has a dent in it, and the lcd is distorted so will swapping out a new screen fix both or do I need to find a new front fascia?
Any word on this phone? I wouldn't mind purchasing this and replacing the screen. My current N900 has a broken usb so this would be a great way to replace it.
Edit: I didn't see your post haha good luck with the replacement. Definitely worth a try! Let mew know if you decide to sell anyway
note on changing the screen, be aware of dust getting between the screen and touchscreen, i spent over 1 hour trying to get it out.....
And the dust really shows and it is so ignoring.....
