I have one (also via Buy.com) which exhibits this behavior. I've found that a few seconds with the battery out then back in and it starts up just fine.

Is there anyone who has a buy.com n800 that doesn't exhibit this problem? Also, when did you purchase from buy.com? ...since there seems to be a strong correlation w/ buy.com.

Mine does too. I just posted on the battery meter forum. It seems to happen most when the battery is low, or taken off the charger before it's full.

I bought my first n800 from buy.com approximately 3 weeks ago and it behaved the same way right out of the box. Battery draining overnight even with power off. I spent a few days trouble shooting made a few posts here and couldn't come up with any concrete reasons for its behavior. Sent it back for a replacement. Went ahead and ordered a new one (otherwise I'd still be waiting for the replacement) and I can say this one behaves perfectly.

Now here's the twist. My brother ordered one as part of the $199 special on buy.com and his WAS DEFECTIVE! Same issues right across the board.

Is it possible I received one in between the first and my brothers that was part of a different lot? I wonder. Maybe I just got lucky...

I'm not sure what all the symptoms being discussed here are; it seems there might be several syndromes afflicting different N800s.

Mine is from Buy.com, about 6 weeks ago (before the $200 special).
I have experienced no "battery draining while shut down" issues.
One thing some people seem to be seeing is failure to power on, but I'm not sure under what circumstances. I see this, but only as follows:
When mine is turned off, then plugged in to charge, and I take it off the charger (usually after a night = fully charged, sometimes after only a partial charge), then try powering it on within a few seconds, it doesn't come on. If I wait a few seconds for the tablet to shut down from it's charging-status display mode, then it powers on normally. I think this is normal (though sub-optimal) N800 behavior.
Other than coming off the charger, it always powers up reliably.

I bought mine at Buy.com right before the 199.00 deal also, and have had no issues till last night.
I shut it off like I normally do then plugged in the charger, for just a split second it popped up a message saying "media card corrupt", then it went away and it said that it was charging. This morning it wouldn't start up, just the initial splash screen then back off. I removed all the media cards, still nothing so I charged it again, then it booted with the charger plugged in. When it gets done charging I will see if its going to fly on its own.

A quick follow up, it works fine now. The reason it would not power up was that the battery was completely dead. This is strange though, because when I plugged it in for charge last night it only had about an hours use on a full charge. What discharged the battery is beyond me.
I believe the powering up issue is more of a battery issue that the 800 itself. Just my .02 worth.

Whoa, looks like I'm in good company... I bought a N800 during the $200 buy.com special, and it only powered up once, and that was it. The Nokia splash screen came up and that's all...
I played with it for several days trying to get it to boot up, but nothing.
I also fully charged the battery (with my Orbit charger), let it sit overnight with no battery, but it would never boot up again.
I've sent it back to buy.com for replacement. I got tired of waiting for my replacement, so I ordered another one from buy.com the other day. I'm still awaiting the N800's.
I hope these do not exhibit the same problems.

I'll report back once I receive one of them.
