You can use an iphone connector in the tablets if you don't push it all the way in. There's a thread where people discuss how to keep the connector from going all the way in. Hot glue? washer? Fun reading.
I have a blackberry curve 8320 and nokia n800 an excellent combination for tethering. Both use 3.5 stereo voice jacks and are not compatible. Ordinary headphones will work in either.
The iphone compatible headset vmoda duo works fine with the blackberry but not with the n800.
I seem to experience difficulty with how each has wired the interrupt switch for call vs headphone. vmoda in n800 does not deliver stereo unless i press the switch on the microphone. n800 headset in the blackberry interfers with the music player by causing it to continuously pause.
Really? I have the 8320, and I find that using the Nokia headphones or a standard 3-pole headphones (such as the FM transmitter in my car) with the Blackberry results in only the left channel playing. The Nokia, OTOH, plays just fine in both channels...In fact, I have started downloading all of my podcasts on it and use it as my defacto mp3/ogg player.

A iphone TV-out cable i have dont work on my nokia devices so its not just apple headsets wont dont work on nokia products.
For the record, I bought a Pre-amp "designed for iPhones/ipods" and it, indeed, does'nt work w/ my N900.

Specifically, the mic input is not sending anything to the N900. I tested it with Filmore, but I'd like to know of other means of recording directly from the mic "line" (ie NOT the built-in mic)
Does anybody know the real pin-out of the N900 audio "mono in/stereo out" 3.5 jack connector ? I'd like to re-wire this preamp thing, since it's pretty obvious I won't buy any apple product soon.
Can somebody point me to a technical resource about this ?
A 3.5 mm version of this plug is now commonly available on mobile telephones as well. A 3.5 mm stereo-plus-mic jack is available that is compatible with standard 3.5 mm stereo headphones, e.g. Nokia has been widely using TRRS connectors with 3.5 mm diameter since 2006. The selected pin assignment, with ground on the sleeve, is as well standardized in OMTP [8] and has been accepted as a national Chinese standard YDT 1885-2009.

Apple is using the same connectors, but with inversed GND and MIC INPUT... just to screw up standards, possibly.
You can solder an adaptor in approx 30s, you need a male and a female 4pin jack, and just connect:
1 => 1
2 => 2
3 => 4
4 => 3
your adaptor will now work both ways (apple/others plugs on others/apple devices)
