You're assuming I only have one laptop? It's 2011, you know, most people own more than one television too! The computer I'm typing on right now (SHOCKWAVE) runs Kubuntu. Technically, it's Natty 11.04 but I installed Linux kernel 3.1 RC4, since this laptop has the new Sandybridge CPU+GPU and I really need the new kernel to support the hardware properly. How's MacOS X on compatibility with non-Apple hardware, by the way? How's Darwin support doing with being MacOS X compatible? You can't use ANY piece of hardware--you're a bit limited. Additionally, you're often (not always, but often) on the trailing edge of hardware support for drivers.

I'm not sure what the point of that exercise was, though. I maintain that all of your points are irrelevant when it comes with Steve's accomplishments. He's done some great things, but I feel like you're overly embellishing on the wrong achievements, thus trying too hard and getting many details wrong. You don't need to do that. Trust me--*I* recognize he's been GREAT for Apple and pushed innovation along, even if he wasn't actually an innovator of originality.

Erm... quite wrong. OS X is based on BSD. So Steve Jobs brought BSD to more developers, designers and whatnot.

I can't tell if you're complimenting iOS ("IOS is the worth thing i know") or if you've got a lisp and you're criticizing iOS ("what i absolutly dislike"). You might as well say it in French.. I might understand better.

What I've been trying to say, myself, is that Steve Jobs is not an innovator... Steve Jobs is a motivator. He's not incredibly impressive at the former, but he's incredibly effective at the latter. Most of what Apple does well is re-package the innovations that other people have already created, put some production value into it, sell it as their own innovation and raise some enthusiasm over it. That's all.. but he does that well. I'm not even sure that he's responsible for bringing it to the common man--I still think Linus Torvalds did a far better job of that--but I do think Jobs did a better job of marketing it to the masses to drive enthusiasm. I'm not convinced that the masses care that it's based on UNIX or BSD, however. I don't often see Apple consumers typing into a terminal, and when they do they're usually copy-pasting commands they don't understand and don't care about.

I started my elementary schooling in a private French-run school here in the US, so they required us to begin learning French at a young age alongside English... but it was only four years (4th through 8th grades) and it's been a long time... but I could definitely understand that simple phrase. Merci!

I don't see much difference between Apple and MS here.
That 's why Linux has more impact on my desktop.
