For all intents and purposes, yes it is.

Look at the specs for 10-inch netbooks, for example. They're all literally the same, except for the coloring of the plastic shell and the logotype on the sticker.

That's because they are all made by Intel. The so-called 'manufacturers' are only providing the packaging.

I assume Intel is aiming for something very similar in their plans for handset domination.

After a short research about the new MeeGo netbooks I found this: Asus MeeGo netbook - #1 in the us charts

Where is the Chromebook? Where are the Android devices? There is a market for MeeGo and also for Handsets. We need only a good manufacturer...

First of all before burrying Meego lets wait for intel to say it. I too believe that if they will put it on hold it's probably because they do not have a CPU for the handset.

Then it's odd that they announced MeeGo without a chipset waiting in the wings.

I'm guessing it's actually on the hardware side where the hangups and delays are happening. If Intel had a good handset CPU, you can be sure that they would have already released and marketed a usable MeeGo setup.
The only handset named was the Nokia N9 and that LG 990 (now canceled). Only the LG and the OEM Aava ran Intel chips.

The problem seems to be adoption rates.
