appUp is not only for meego apps...

Not quite. Acer actually announced and showed the Iconia M Tablet running on MeeGo.

You're talking about the Acer Iconia M500? The one that ran on Intel Atom?

I can't locate it for sale anywhere. I don't mind admitting that I'm wrong, but no devices in that form factor have been released to my knowledge.

That was the point I was making. Nothing Moblin came out as a device that we could purchase. Same for MeeGo so far in tablet and handset.

I'm sure they will very soon....
They've had brief/vague previews, but they've never said: "Here it is in-full, it's out any month now".
They've only ever had very rough time-lines, & IIRC they're still roughly within that.
They may have passed one or two official deadlines, need to re-check that...
I reckon we'll have an anouncement or leak of some kind before the year's done.
But it better be something impressive, else Intel should just walk away & start relicensing ARM.

MeeGo is not dead.
MeeGo is not dying either.

In the harsh African wilderness many predators will try to kill off their competitors babies to ensure their generation has the advantage.
The death of the new cub (WebOS) has caused all lioness's to be cautious around the members of the pride. It looks like things will be most difficult for single mother (Intel) and her first cub (MeeGo) since the father lion (NOKIA) has abandoned them. The mother lioness may need to abort the growing feotus, or leave it for the hyenas when born, to ensure her own safety.

A younger and stronger lioness (Microsoft) has successfully mated with the pack leader. However, even for their expected young, nothing is promised. The pack leader had recently been dethroned by a younger lion (Apple). The new pack leader is also threatened by a new pride (Android) who has several powerful members (Samsung, Motorola).

This volatile environment is dangerous business for all animals, from the bottom to the top of the food chain. And mother nature can show us how difficult survival can be.

Just like Nokia putting out a Windows 7 netbook out LOOONG after everyone else already moved on to the tablet trend... deja vu all over again!

* Intel states they're commited to MeeGo in response to rumour

Everyone understands it as MeeGo is dead, even if it isn't logically correct according to the article itself
It may not be LOGICALLY true, but the words they choose are dripping with historic context that implies an intention for a quiet death.

Soooo... this is, once again, based on faith--not on something provably purchasable... which was, in fact, his original point.

Meego IS dying and you can thank Elop for that because everyone will move over to WP soon.

This community will either pick that up and go with it or it will die too 100% guarenteed.

He's killing MeeGo within Nokia. Intel's part in MeeGo either successful or not is what the problem seems to be right now.

Nokia did their damage by announcing in February 2010 that they were coming out with a MeeGo device. Then in September 2011... it's still not out. Intel hasn't had anybody to come out with a handset yet. Intel needs to strike a deal with somebody.

...because everyone will move over to WP soon.
Doubtful. I'm going to wait until WP8 before I even think about developing for that platform. No way I'm learning WPF/Silverlight just to have it potentially deadend on me in the next iteration of Windows Phone.

That's like specializing in GTK+ or Python when the next phone will be Qt only/mostly.

Oh wait.

This community will either pick that up and go with it or it will die too 100% guarenteed.
Nokia pulls the plug on funding, this community will go away.

Love your posts because of the factual nature of them and i agree totally to wait for WP8 as i really do think it will be very soon on the market.

This is the best community on the net so i sincearly hope it does NOT go away, it just needs to find funding from Nokia again with the WP devices .

Am sure Elop would want a WP community.... think about it .
