Does anyone know if the N810 that sells at comp usa is an open platform?

There's probably a little confusion about what you mean. If it is the Nokia N810 it runs maemo. If by open you mean "not closed" (ala the iPhone), then yes... you can add 3rd party apps (there are many) and they don't have to be Nokia-approved.

and just in case there is confusion on this, the n810, n800, n700 are not phones.

There's also no such thing as an N700. There's a 770.

...and the Samsung N700 weights 70g, so I guess that makes it a N770 ?

Nah, that's the N700. Surely you mean this.

And while we're delineating the product line, it should be noted that the N900 was available some time ago.
