Linux kernel is semi-monolithic.
QNX Neutrino is micro-kernel.
Symbian is Micro-kernel (EKA2 is actually "nano").
Android is monolithic bastardized Linux kernel.
iOS is hybrid kernel.
...now start the arguments what is "better".

Ive find some anoying fings in android, example, doing a copy paste from text on a web page y had android browser crash, multiple times, and thats to add to the anoyance of not being able to copy with shift right. Another incredible anoyance, downloading an atachment from mail sends the file to download automaticly, no option to do anything else. This to things are not configurable in any way so for example im forced to take my n900 to copy a large text from the web, make a file and send it to my android tablet. And for the file y have to do the extra anoying work to copy the files downloaded to the corresponding folder. Basicly with android i feel like i need a pc, i never felt that with the, n900.

at the moment i prefer maemo. I probably could get used to android, but am sorry the multitasking isn't something i can put up with. i tried it with gingerbread on my n900 and I just cant do it. i hope honeycomb is different and allows true multitasking. but a great thing about android is flash and how well it runs even on an n900.

Going to Android gave me a 5 inch tablet, very sensitive GPS and a great virtual keyboard. The down side is that I cannot communicate with a developer of an app and expect timely needed improvements.

It depends. I've found nice devs on the other side, too, and happy to receive feedback from users, and to implement their suggestions.

I quess what I should have said is that the Android developers to not "hang out" at a single super forum such as this one, where I can leave my suggestions.

The good things about maemo:
-awesome multi tasking still even after all this time...
-customise nearly every aspect of the device easily...
-organic app creation process, lots of user feedback and input...
-behaves more like a computer then a phone...
-the forum its organised compared to others, more like a community...

The bad things about maemo:
-occasional heavy lag makes you want to smash it into bits...
-lack of major developer apps...
-usb port failure, yes it does exist...
-its not fully open source and nokia lied about certain things...
-internal error closing application...
-crappy battery life and the phone get warm/ lol good for british cold winters...

The good thing about android:
-loads of apps, actively supported...
-high end hardware devices...
-might just take over the world lol its nearly in everthing...

The bad thing about android:
-runs poorly on mid to low hardware, really its that bad anything else is better...
-aweful multi tasking, makes you want to scream WTF...
-kindah junkiee market place as, in its hard to find new fresh good apps...
-poor battery standard one day use...
-force close and more lag...

The good thing about ios:
-very smooth nearly all the time...
-large selection of shiney polished apps...
-simple to use, no brain required...

The bad thing about ios:
-limited customisabilty even with cydia...
-useless paper weight without jailbreak...
-sorry excuse for multi tasking...
-no file manager...
-very poor call quality...
-but the worst thing is FREAKKIN GOD DAMN ITUNES... lol

btw i have used all of these os and end of the day its really up to you, use whatever makes you happy, even if its two paper cups tied to a really long piece of string... :P
