QTCreator autom atic creates deb and RPM packages so it would be very stupid if the devs didn't support both

BUT the lack of still non existing repo for open source projects seems to be a problem atm.. But hopefully very soon to be solved

Meego CE is already available for the N900 however just how useable it is, or ever will be, is questionable. I doubt it will ever replace meamo as the day to day os.

for a MItM attacks the most important thing is to have a network card supporting promiscuous mode and most of the cards dont support it so cross fingers N9 has one supporting it

As far as rumours go, N950 is equipped with wl1271 chipset which means N9 will most likely be equipped with identical wireless chipset.

The driver for that chipset is fully open within linux, therefore one has access to rfmon/monitor mode (which only maybe a bit more than a handful of wireless chipsets of all the variations of wireless chipset supported under linux through various means has that support).

If it has that support then it should have a well developed managed support (and should inherently include promiscuous mode).

promiscuous mode is not something you can get through software is a capacity it has inherent of the hardware, many wireless cards will not have monitor or promiscous mode no matter what drivers you put on them, however many cards support monitor mode but promiscuous mode is a very rare quality only some cards support, we are very luckily to have in our N900 a card who support everything: monitor, promiscuous, inyection and is very sensitive too, almost look like a profesional wifi card to auditing networks.

The only way to know if support promiscuous mode is someone who has a N950/N9 run ettercap (or some other sniffer) on it, and see if can sniff packets from other ip or not.

The tertiary firmware for WL1271/3 supports RFMON just fine. The driver, however, does not. Same as with the WL1251 chip.

802.11 "promiscuous" mode is not referred to as 'promiscuous mode' per se. It is RFMON or "monitor mode" where a card is adjusted to passively Rx any data on a specified frequency. This is a function of the firmware that is normally disabled in drivers.

Monitor mode is present in the stock driver that ships on the N950, it is slightly broken and the upper stack does not support it. mac80211 needs to be backported and a patch to allow proper RFMON and live-frame transmitting without association (aka packet injection) is required as well.

Of course, the 1251 and 1271/3 drivers are inherently similar, and as the above poster noted, they are completely open source. Once aegis-free (unsigned) kernels can be flashed and are fully functional, development for this can take place.

Until basement-brew is possible on the N950 (which is a decent way off), this won't be and unless we can raise some funds to get this done, I suspect it won't ever be.

I just don't understand why no other modern phone implements an FM transceiver and IR transmitter. THESE ARE AWESOME FEATURES! The N900 is just an awesome phone in general.
