    I'm exceedingly, genuinely curious to know how that will turn out.

    HOLY SH1T BRO DO NOT TAKE YOUR N900 TO NOKIA REPAIR CENTRE!!!! They WILL replace it with an N8 (E7 if you argue later).

    The speaker is an easy part to replace, it is not even soldered to the board! Just open the N900 up, take out the old one and pop in a new one.

    (unless you just want rid of your N900 and want an E7 to sell for monies)

    Really don't understand all these N900 warriors leaving the battlefield just because their phone is knackered. Pick up another on ebay or just fix it.

    Unless - secretly you want to join the Haemorrhoid masses with a fancy-dan HTC (save yourself the hassle - pick up a cheapo ZTE Blade on ebay, marvel at it for a week then launch it through a window a week later, bored and frustrated) or chain the anvil that is an iphone around your neck.

    Either way, there's no need for the dramatic exits. These useless bits the maemo boys are hosting on their db cost money (yes - I appreciate the irony of this statement and this post).

    @Jaco2k

    Somehow I managed to avoid getting Symbianed - had the usual fault: wasn't charging with the AC-10. Thankfully, I could still plug into a pc so flashed device before submitting.
    Also, T&C on repairs website was a 404 page so I had a bargaining chip. I did my best to pre-empt potential problems by including a letter saying mend or replace with N900 only, with the device when send it off.
    - I sent mine in direct, not via a repair centre - it's a lot quicker as well.
    - this was at the end of August in the UK.
    Good luck.

    Instead of leaving you COULD just build a Maemo chroot and use maemo via command line on Android!

    It's gonna work like crap, but tweak and modify to make it better.
    There is no GUI (no VNC server.. Or maybe I'm just sh!!t.. I tried).

    Maemo runs fine on Android (chroot - but... yeah).
