I just released version 0.91 of the MediaBox media center. Besides some improvements and bugfixes, this new version also features support for FM radio.
The FM radio will only appear on the N800, though. The other Nokia internet tablets don't have a built-in FM tuner chip.
I can't get it to install on N800 2007. Got an error from Application manager "Unable to install mediabox". Tried ver 0.91 and 0.91.1, have python 2.5 and mplayer.
I downloaded the installation file on my windows computer first, and then sent the file to my tablet. It installed without problems.
(I've been having issues installing directly on to the tablet lately, so I've reverted to using this method when I've been having trouble--it seems to work in general)
mplayer video integration has some problems on the 770, so video is disabled there for now. Adding an internet radio station causes problems due to window manager issues. So in 0.92, internet radio will also be disabled on the 770. Music albums and images work fine on the 770. The clock works fine, too.
My missing feature is to play radio through the speakers instead the headphones.
I'm missing this as well. Since it's undocumented, I had no chance to get it work yet. I assume it's some switch on the mixer, but I'm not sure (and not an ALSA kernel guy...).
Well, if you could get radio through the speakers with headphones hooked up, you might be able to get all audio through the speakers.
I'd love this feature. Sit down at desk, hit button on screen, and music comes out speakers. Remove earphones, but leave them plugged in device for quick "grab'n'go". Also, switching to/from FM radio while playing speakers would no longer involve cable-plugging.
Very good app! I love all the functionality it combines in one app.
I have noticed couple of problems so far. I started playing a video, pressed fullscreen button and 5 seconds later pressed fullscreen button again to go back to not fullscreen and video froze. Pushing play would not get it going again. I then tried internet radio and tried playing the accuradio hitcast stream. It started playing but few seconds later it popped up an error message saying "Stream has stopped unexpectedly" and the stream indeed stopped playing. Pause button had changed to play. I pressed ok on the error message and the stream started playing again, but the play button stayed at play instead of changing to pause. Now the play button was out of sync. I pressed play, it changed to pause, stream started playing but stopped almost immediately with the same error message. This kept happening every 10-15 seconds. I can play the same stream fine with internet radio applet.
Are there plans to make the internet radio function operational? Right now it says unsupported.
The internet radio is operational. But you cannot play radio streams in realaudio, because mplayer cannot handle realaudio without installed x86-only closed-source plugins.
Unfortunately, the Nokia-predefined radio streams on OS 2008 are all realaudio.

FM radio works well.
The "stream has stopped" message seems to happen with MP3 streams. I'm still investigating this situation.
The out-of-sync play button will be fixed soon, too.
