dude, if these people can't even find and follow the instructions that have already been posted on this thread (let alone find the instructions on the wiki) how do you think they will have the capacity to repartition the internal MMC?

It''s not as if a 4gb class 6 microSD is actually expensive.......

Flasher (windows version but linux version also) can't flash meego disk image and furthermore MeeGo don't use Nand (rootFS).

Why do you want to erase Maemo from N900 ?

I already repartitioned the emmc with 8gb for meego..but do you know how to install and create a multiboot entry for meego?

Sadly meego can't work simply with multiboot. You need u-boot and some guys here have managed to make it to chainload multiboot so they can also boot nitdroid but it's far from stable

i just use multiboot because of bfs-kernel | power-kernel....but can u-boot choose between 2 emmc partitions?

gestures are not (yet) integrated. there's some finishing touches which need to be done first, I imagine I'll find time to get it in for the next release.

Can someone please explain why meego can not be developed to install as an os directly to the N900 because quite frankly this sd method is bad and many people are just not able to use it due to lack of programming knowledge.

This development has been on going for many months now and i really am suprised it is not available as a flashable image over Maemo.

it can be installed without an SD, that's the eMMC method. tooling could probably be improved there, contributions welcome. it can't be "flashed", because it is bigger than Maemo5, and thus doesn't fit on the 256mb internal NAND

different people have different priorities. I don't find it that hard to use an SD card (and apparently neither do many of our testers), I also find it reassuring that if things go wrong, I can just bump the SD and easily boot into Maemo. but: as I say, if you (or others) are interested in helping to improve installation with other techniques, I'd personally be happy to see that happen

OUCH i never knew it was bigger than is possible to flash direct to the device.

Why is this the case when we have got Maemo working as an os, why is meego that big a file that it cannot be used as the os directly?.

Surely something can be done about this?.

One thing i do want to point out is when people realise the power of meego on the N9 they are going to feel unhappy if this os is not in place and ready for the N900.

Maemo patches a *lot* of things to work in a very unique way, i.e. the optification you see for most of the base system that places caches and all sorts of stuff on the eMMC while just keeping the bare bones on NAND.. that's an awful lot of work to do initially and maintain for a single device's adaptation (as you'd never get upstream projects to accept this, because they don't need it)

plus it has a lot of annoyances/downsides, etc

Yes I prefer a little slower OS but with the ability to install whatever I want (e.g. LibreOffice)

For example look at the thread about moving maemo to the eMMC. Some say it's even faster than it is on the NAND.
